I bought this floor nailer after researching it on Amazon and reading reviews for it and others (like the Porter-Cable). When I received it, I checked the allen screws on the base (as another reviewer reported issues with them), and found no problems with them or anything else on this item. This last weekend I took it to our new home and installed 500 square feet of oak flooring with the Bostitch FLN-200 flooring nails, and the only problems I had were those I created myself, like striking too lightly with the hammer, which does indeed require that you set the nail by hand, or break off the protruding portion of the nail and try again. I’ve been in quality control for over 25 years, and have used power tools for over 30 years, and I must say I am entirely satisfied with the performance, fit and finish of this nailer. I also like the fact that the manufacturer provides rebuild parts (gaskets and o-rings) right with the nailer. And it cost me a lot less than the Porter-Cable! Thanks to all you other reviewers that helped me decide on the Akuzuki Contractor Pro Series Hardwood Floor Cleat Nailer and Stapler.
Worked excellent out of the box on red oak flooring. So far no issues. Great buy at price.
For the price and based on the other reviews, we were expecting a flawless nailer. What we got was far from it, and it is likely going back to Amazon if we can’t get some issues fixed. For one, it leaks air — a lot of air. And, unlike some of the other experiences, our experience was that it does, in fact, stop working right when it leaking air out the gasket. We put a new one in, and we will see if it starts leaking again. This has not been the only problem — jambing also has been an issue. The mallet also is not well-constructed, as some other reviewers have noted. We are about half-way through one room, and I’ll try to update this review as we work through some of these issues. However, I’m sticking with two stars because I do not consider a nailer that malfunctions right out of the box to be contractor quality. It makes me wonder if Amazon sent me a returned product.
I have been a professional woodfloor installer for 20 years,I bought this product to install 500 sq.ft of red oak 3/4 by 2 1/4>The tool is solid and well build, easy to use.
I agree with everything that has been said about quality, ease of use, etc. This is a very good tool. I installed 500 foot of bamboo with no major problems. I did have to stop and tighten one seal one time. The only times it failed to properly drive a nail or staple was when I did not hit it hard enough or when it hit a nail in the subflooring. Even then the jams cleared easily. Two words of caution/advice on using it (or probably any other nailer) for bamboo. One is that I agree with what someone else said about damaging the edges if you do not have it set square and level. Make sure you do. The other is I would recommend using cleat nails instead of staples. I used staples to start and it fired them fine. However, the bamboo did not seem to have enough give or softness to allow the crown of the staple to set. It sometimes raised the edge of the bamboo. Switching to cleat nails and getting the air pressure just right largely fixed the problem. Note: This may also have to do with the flooring thickness. I shimmed the tool’s baseplate and was using it for 7/16 flooring. A thicker board would have maybe had more room to let the staples or nails set, although I was using the sizes recommended by the manufacturer of the boards.
