My Black & Decker rotary tool (Dremel Clone) died on me and I needed a replacement in a hurry. Based on Amazon reviews I chose the Proxxon, even though I had never heard of them. I was a bit worried about my choice until I used it. WOW!!……Smooth, powerful, and well balanced. Far superior to any other small rotary tool that I have ever used.

Based on the reviews i read here, I bought a PROXXON ROTARY TOOL. It did indeed run smooth. I am making diamond willow canes and was using this tool with carbide burrs to clean and shape. The tool got warmer but not hot so i kept using it. It finally started missing and finally quit entirely. I sent it in and had it replaced with a new one. Now the new one is doing the same thing. I have read reviews that say the DREMEL does the same thing.

The bottom line here is that both tools are not designed for heavy continuous work. I am going to buy a DREMEL 400 and send in the PROXXON and use both in a rotation. It should be interesting to see which gives out first. When I find out, I will post an update so inquiring minds will know.

I might go to a die grinder. It is heavier and more awkward, but I could then us both 1/4 and 1/8 inch attachments.

After reading multiple reviews I selected the Proxxon tool over the much-maligned Dremel product. The Proxxon is powerful, easy to control, and fits well in the hand. Power is maintained throughout the entire RPM range, and the entire tool seems very well made. The keyless chuck is precision-made and the spindle lock button makes it easy to install and remove the bit. The included plastic case is sturdy. My only complaint is that some of the included accessories (spindle, cutoff blade) seemed cheap and it only took about five minutes before I had wrung off the small screw in the spindle holding the blade. The good news here is that the chuck will accommodate Dremel accessories, which are readily available locally and seem to be of good quality. Glad I made this purchase.

Sturdily built and adequately powered unit. Not too heavy in your hand. I have put hours of use on it without too much heat build up and no slow downs. Power switch seemed to be in a strange place at first, but it has not caused any false power offs or trouble. Variable speed makes different jobs easier. So far excellent tool, if it lasts then it will be a real value.
